Static Control for Children with Cochlear Implants

Cochlear implant

Occasionally we receive inquiries from schools or daycare centers regarding the protection of cochlear implants in children. As children play on the carpet or plastic playground equipment, the static generated from friction is enough to damage cochlear implants. Some parents or professionals use humidifiers or a Staticide topical solution as a helpful aid in reducing static.

Heavy Duty Staticide can be applied on carpet once a month. Vacuuming will not remove the product but shampooing will. Apply enough so that the anti-stat absorbs into the fibers, but not so saturated that the carpet takes a long time to dry.

General Purpose can be applied to playground or decks. It is a water-based solution that will dilute with natural moisture from the environment, so it is a temporary solution. Rain will wash the residual anti-stat away and the Staticide will need to be reapplied.
